Jimmy,

Russell and I received the Pfizer vaccine that requires 21 days between shots. I believe Moderna requires 28 days. If you go online you may be able to find an earlier appointment. When I went onlineyesterday at Novant there were about 12 openings 7am to 3pm. You just have to keep checking.

Joe and I got Pfizer vaccine at MUSC-Lancaster on January 14th. We get our second vaccine on February 5th. I went on line to SCDHEC Vaccine Locations. This is a map showing all locations in SC that are giving the vaccine.

***UPDATE***

Got an appointment at YCHD in Rock Hill, Feb 17!  I was at the point I'd take anything anywhere. I'll throw in a window visit with my Mom and that will make the drive worth it.angry

Comeon Joe, you said you would fix this crap.

Ya'll, after I had my shot yesterday, my arm was sore at the injection spot. That was about it. I sleep on my left side so wish I'd had the shot in my right arm. Ha. Ha. Anyway, I took an advil before going to bed last night. You know or maybe you don't how at this age you feel tired and achy especially in the morning when you first wake up? Well, today I feel great and refreshed, more so than usual. Wonder if the vaccine has something to do with that? Hmmmm.

Great, Jimmy. Thanks for sharing. I encourage all to get vaccinated. The sooner we do the sooner we can get past this hunker down mode.

I got my first vaccine this morning and they scheduled me for my second on Feb. 14. Thats just 17 days between. But I will take it anytime they schedule since it's in short supply. Grand Strand Medical Center.

No side effects but heard second dose might cause side effects. Don't know why.

Thanks, Ruth. I hope the vaccines will be effective in preventing the virus so willing to take a risk.

Well that was a good experience, the folks at Iredell Hosp got it going on. I decided to leave my house early because I had never been there. My GPS took me the shortest route as usuall, and I wound up coming in the back of the hospital. When around  front and turned in to see a police officer in the middle of the street leading to the tents and he started waving me in. I stopped and told him my appt wasn't until 1:40 (it was 1;05) he said you good, get behind that beige truck. Showed them my ticket and got my shot. Hot little nurse said pull on down and wait 15 mins and you are done. Pulled out of the lot at 1:25 with my load of Pfizer.. Almost 4 hrs and no ill effects.

My goddaughter's husband is a cardiologist at Massachusetts  General Hospital and teaches at Harvard Medical School. He explained the need for 2 vaccines as the first vaccination is priming the pump and giving limited immunity and the second vaccination as finishing up the protection. Yes...the second vaccination usually has some side effects....

Jimmy,

So glad all worked out today. Suzanne, thank you for sharing we should expect a reaction to the second shot. If we share our experiences here it may help those who have yet to be vaccinated.

Kathy George (George)

I am Nickie George's wife and just want to give a little insight into the 2nd shot of the vaccine.  I had the Pfizer vaccine, so, my experience is with that vaccine.  Be prepared for a headache that you have never ever had before, chills, fever, severe fatigue, and stomach upset!!!!   At the least chills, fever, headache and severe fatigue.  Plan to be prepared with Advil, plenty of fluids, and being in bed for 1 to 1 1/2 days due to the fatigue.

Kathy, thank you for sharing your experience. We had the 1st Phizer vaccine shot so this will help us and others prepare for the 2nd. When I had the 2nd shot of the shingles vaccine, it affected me for several days. Posting what we know will help each other and we can share the information with friends and family also. Thanks everyone for using and staying engaged on our website as we go through this stage of the pandemic.

At church today someone heard of our getting an earlier appointment. I was able to share on my phone how to navigate on the medical portal as available appointments pop up in real time. She conducts swim classes at senior centers and she plans to share the info with them. Please share what you know with others.

Here is some feedback from a couple in our church who are in their 80's. I did not solicit the information but it may help us be better prepared. It sounds like the 2nd shot may create some symptoms so good to know.

"Bob and I got our 2nd Pfizer this past Saturday.  The first one didn’t bother us, but the 2nd one made me not feel well for all day yesterday. Was achy and zero energy, but woke up this morning feeling fine.  Bob didn’t have any affects from it"

Kay Manning (Elrod)

Thank all of you, Becky, Jimmy, Kathy, Rita and Suzanne - everybody- for sharing your experiences. Your information has been so helpful in guiding us through a scary time. We have appointments for our first shots in April and, frankly, I'm going to need that time to psych myself into getting the shot. I have read and heard the second injection will have flu-like side effects so we all can expect something more than a sore arm. Sorry Kathy you had such a bad reaction.

Would someone please share with the class what you are doing to entertain yourself or pass the time in these days of gloom.  The news anchor today was saying "there is nothing to do! Can't go to a show, can't go out to eat, can't go to a ballgame, kids can't even go to school - what is there to do?" Some days I feel like all I have done is wait for this to pass without accomplishing a thing. Please share.

Kathy George, which vaccine did you receive, Pfizer or Moderna? I'm wondering if side effects on 2nd dose are same with both Pfizer and Moderna. Maybe we should tell the vaccine we received as we report side effects.

Just re-read your post, Kathy and I see you got the Pfizer. That's what my first dose was. Not looking forward to second dose.

Kay,

First I think that news anchor is in NYC were they were snowed in. It sounds exactly like what I heard this morning on Fox with Bill Hemmer. Indoor dining is not allowed or pretty much anything else there. The vaccine appointments were cancelled today.

I stay pretty busy. If you volunteer at church you will stay busy. I guarantee it. I do a lot via Zoom versus meeting in person and a lot of what I do is on the computer. Russell and I go to church on Sundays. He teaches Sunday school class if anyone wants to attend at 9:15. I make the coffee. The worship services are in-person and live streamed at 10:30. You must wear a mask at all times and someone will take your temperature when you arrive. www.cscpc.org.

Russell and I flew to Key West after Christmas then in January went to the mountains with another couple. We get together with a few couples and have dinner, play scrabble or dominoes. Have you played Mexican train dominoes? I typically jam on Tuesdays with some buddies and play guitar and sing a little. We took a break last month as one buddy the base player wants to forgo meeting till he gets the vaccine. He is in his late 70's with health issues. Tomorrow we resume the jams without him as the music is calling. I Skype with this buddy the base player every Wednesday. He is teaching me music theory and how to use Band in a Box software. Russell gave me a keyboard for Christmas so we will see how I progress from the midi keyboard to the full keyboard. Right now I can play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

I am organizing my book of poems written from high school through the years. I am not prolific by any means but would like to create a coffee table copy of what I have. Wayne has graciously permitted me to use his photos in the book. Thanks, Wayne.

Our favorite shopping is at Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Costco and Aldi. I shop retail mostly on line but visit SouthPark Mall from time to time. I watch Netflix series, Longmire right now, and DVR some shows like Flip,or Flop, House Hunters, etc and watch those. Then today I moved some socks from one drawer to another. Tomorrow I may move them to another drawer but have not decided yet.

Becky:  You are right, the news anchor was in NY. He said outside dining was a bit challenging right now. Ha!  You're a hoot - I, too, have moved socks from one drawer to another and called that "productive". You have given me ideas for future reference. I should be going through pictures and identifying old family members for my girls and nephew (who shows great interest in geneology).  I should catagorize them into families and areas of the country. I have boxes and albums, as I inherited my Grandmother's photo collection when she died. My girls are also on me to complete a "Grandma" book they gave me for the grandchildren. Yes, there are things to do - dusting and vacuuming are high on the list. Maybe I have just lost interest. I have clothes in my closet I wonder if I will ever be able to wear. I told Lake I was going to be like the old cowboy who died with his boots on, only I will die with my tags on.  I guess I could wear them to the grocery store. You've been a great help and especially with the information on the vaccine. I admire your enthusiasm. Keep up that keyboard. I'm sure it won't be long until you progress to "Jesus Loves Me".
