Thank you Cheryl Bumgarner for letting us know about Lamar's passing in 2024. I remember Lamar from the eight grade. Although, he may have moved away before graduating, he wanted to be a member of our website. Please post your remembrances of Lamar. Becky

In Memory of
Howard Lamar Hopper Jr.
Howard H. Hopper Jr., known affectionately by friends and family as Lamar, passed away on May 1, 2024, in Moncks Corner, S.C. Born on Independence Day in 1948, in Gaffney, S.C., a son of the late Howard Lamar Hopper and Betty Louise Martin Hopper, he was also the widower of Shirley Tylee Hopper.
Lamar is survived by his daughter Marta Shipley and her husband Brian, his son Nat Hopper and his wife Erin, as well as his sisters Gale Thomasson and Nancy McLachlan along with her husband Monty. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren Joshua Shipley and Brianne Lawrence, and her husband Logan. Lamar was preceded in death by his brother Ted.
For many years, Lamar was employed at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, and after its closing, he continued work with contractor Mundy at DAK America. Lamar was the quintessential tinkerer, always to be found in his garage while at home.
