WOW! Your response to a simple Valentine card is phenominal. It just goes to show, like Robert says, that there is still a lot of kid in all of us. I agree with you, Robert, and it is important for us to bring that little guy out whenever possible. I love the pictures of the classroom of juniors and seniors making and receiving their Valentines. The excitement in the air way back then also was fueled by sharing the occasion with our moms who participated with us, buying the cards for us  and preparing the party. I hope parents still make an effort to participate with their little ones. Aren't we lucky to still have the ability to remember these events so long ago - 67 years ago or so.  Love to all of you this Valentine's Day!! heart heart

Cheryl: Thanks so much for the interesting article about the WTS building. No one can deny that is the most beautiful building in Rock Hill and for miles and miles!  Rock Hill is very lucky to have such rich history and enough caring people to see that the stories are told. You are so thoughtful to share this with us and I hope everyone will take time to read it. It is everyone's history if you are from RH.

Kay, you're welcome!

Cheryl, my brother was very interested in the article so I sent him a copy. He went to WTS from K-4 and then it closed. He has always been interested in the building. When he was a small boy our Dad used to take him on tours of the building and he was fascinated by it. What sparks my interest is all those rooms we never could see because they were closed off. It had several gyms, one on the 4th floor and another on the ground floor. It also had a pool under the stage in the auditorium. I never knew this. Think of what that building would cost these days to build, it would be impossible! I used to love fire drills because we would get to slide down those curvy enclosed fire escapes - that was really cool. I hate to see the destruction of old buildings. I hated when they demolished the old RHHS, it broke my heart.

Kay,  I hope your brother enjoys the article. I never knew all the history surrounding WTS. It is a  complete history lesson in itself. i was astounded at all the features, the pool, the gyms, etc. Just amazing!

I remember Valentine's Day very well in the 1st. Grade at Northside.  Everyone was excited about sharing cards and eating candy & cake.  Mrs. Wayne came by my desk (we sat in 4's) and asked what were the spots on my face.  It turned out I had chicken pox.  So I had to go home and walked sadly down Annafrel St. to our house.  My Mother was there and consoled me - no valentines, no goodies!  Thankfully, Mrs. Wayne came by our house and.brought me my cards and cookies and candy.  She made a sad day into a great day and one I will always remember!

That's a sad story, but it ended well!  So, it turned out your day was more special than anyone else's. K

My husband and I ate supper tonight with the Drifters. Remembering all the dances and our romances and our best friends and how old we were was such a nice diversion from TV. Do any of you remember the first R&R record that you purchased?  I remember watching American Bandstand on TV at age 9 or 10 and one of my favorites was "Rockin Robin" (Bobby Day, 1957).  The Diamonds with "Little Darlin" was a favorite. After that a whole new world opened up. Great times! It's amazing the many memories a song can trigger.

The Everly Brothers were great too -, "Bye Bye Love", "Wake Up Little Suzie".

Kay, that is so romantic!! I was thinking about the Everly Brothers, just Sunday night. What is the saying? Great minds think alike!! lol

Cheryl, sometime since July we have reserved early evening for "music appreciation".  I have always played music while preparing supper and then Lake got involved. I guess he got tired of my music and wanted to choose some for himself. Then we got really into IL DIVO. (We found out in December that the precious Carlos Marin who sings barotone for the group had died of Covid.)  As rigid as we can be, I am amazed that we found some common ground with music and have really enjoyed the time together.  We listen to all kinds - I do wish we danced more. My music selections are far better than my cooking skills. laugh

Update from David on his son. Keep the prayers coming.

We saw his surgeon last week and we got a good report. At the rate David is improving he will possibly be able to go back to work in 12 to 18 months if he continues to improve.

He sleeps a lot. The doctor said that is normal for traumatic brain injury and stroke as bad as his was.

He is making progress a little at a time.

Thank you all for your prayers,

David and Wyliie Ann Sealy

Thx for update, Becky. Keeping David Michael on my daily prayer list. Gotta see that "boy" come back all the way, but it's always one step and one day at a time. May God grant merciful and empowering daily bread (and also to dad David & mom Wylie Ann).

Her son posted on Facebook that as of right now, no funeral arrangements to announce due to Marsha's wishes for cremation. However, any event will be private for family and very close friends.

I'm guessing this is an Easter Sunday in the days of yore with all the pretty dresses, bonnets and the corsage on the teacher, and don't those young men look good!

Definitely Easter Sunday at the Armstrong home!
